Alan's Psychedelic Breakfast

Alan’s Psychedelic Breakfast is a short film about ritual, grief, and slow disintegration. After the death of his mother, Alan is left with only one way to cope: each morning, he recreates the breakfast she once made for him every morning. This daily act becomes his last anchor to the past, a fragile attempt at preservation. Every day unfolds in the same sequence. First, Alan’s hair, shirt, and pants are observed—quiet markers of his inner state. Then comes the preparation of breakfast. Like hair, which reveals a person’s relationship to themselves through care or neglect, Alan’s appearance mirrors his mental decline. With each passing day, his hair grows more disordered, his clothes more careless, and his breakfast more stripped of intention. What begins as comfort slowly mutates into compulsion. The ritual loses warmth and meaning, becoming mechanical and empty. The breakfast no longer exists to be enjoyed, only to exist. As the structure collapses, so does Alan — his body, his mind, and the fragile identity tied to this daily act.
