Today, home lighting is still often managed through traditional manual switches. While this method is familiar, it is not very efficient or flexible and does not respond well to modern needs related to sustainability and daily comfort. People often forget lights turned on, have little awareness of their energy consumption, and cannot easily adapt lighting to different activities or moods. This can lead to energy waste, higher electricity costs, and less control over the home environment. At the same time, many existing smart lighting systems focus mainly on technical performance, sometimes overlooking clarity, emotional experience, and accessibility for non-expert users. This creates a gap between advanced technology and everyday usability. Lumen was created to reduce this gap. It is a combined smart lighting system and web app that allows users to control and personalize their home lighting in an intuitive and accessible way. The project focuses not only on functionality, but on creating a complete lighting experience centered on people, improving comfort, sustainability, and everyday practicality. Through the Lumen web app, users can create lighting zones, control light intensity, adjust color and temperature, and manage single lamps or entire rooms. The system includes six pre-configured lighting presets and allows users to create three custom presets, making it easy to adapt lighting to different moments of the day and personal needs. Lumen also helps users better understand their energy usage through simplified consumption visualization. This helps people become more aware of their habits and supports both environmental sustainability and cost savings. The app was designed to create an experience that is not only clear, simple, and intuitive, but also enjoyable and engaging. The visual design, custom graphics, and friendly tone of voice work together to guide the user in a natural and comfortable way. The communication style is short, clear, welcoming, and easy to understand, making the app accessible to a wide range of users, including people who are not very familiar with smart home technology. The overall visual identity and interface design aim to create a calm and modern atmosphere, supporting the idea that lighting is not only functional, but also emotional and connected to everyday wellbeing. Overall, Lumen shows how design can transform existing technology into a meaningful, easy-to-use, and engaging experience.
